Flip the Script: Overcoming Limiting Beliefs and Reclaiming Your Power
Life has a way of challenging us, sometimes leaving us stuck in a loop of doubt and negativity. Especially after a very heavy season where we seemingly cannot manage to get out of a “rut”.
UGH!!!!! WHY DOES EVERYTHING BAD ALWAYS HAPPEN TO ME????
(raise your hand if this thought has ever popped up in your mind, or maybe you have screamed it out loud before, because I sure have)
Whether it's personal setbacks or professional plateaus, our mindset plays a pivotal role in how we navigate these hurdles.
A negative mindset, fueled by limiting beliefs, can feel like a never-ending spiral staircase, pulling us down further into self-doubt and victimhood.
But here's the empowering truth: you can flip the script.
By breaking free from limiting beliefs and stepping into a mindset of self-empowerment, you can create the momentum needed to achieve your goals.
Ok Meghan, but how do you rid a negative mindset?
By finding better thoughts. It really is that simple.
Your mind is not a victim if you are a volunteer to those feelings. Sit with that for a minute.
A consistent negative mindset can infiltrate every aspect of our lives and if we marinate in it long enough, it will re-shape how we see the world, how we interact with others, and, most importantly, how we see ourselves.
Some ways this can show up is in the form of:
Self-Sabotage: Negative self-talk can convince us we’re not capable, discouraging us from trying in the first place.
Missed Opportunities: When we dwell on fear and doubt, we’re less likely to take risks or seize opportunities.
Strained Relationships: Negativity can make us defensive, jealous, or unapproachable, impacting both personal and professional connections.
Health Consequences: Stress, anxiety, and depression often accompany a persistently negative mindset, taking a toll on mental and physical health.
Now some of you might be saying “DUH; if I have a negative feeling about something of course I am going to feel bad about it”, but it truly goes deeper than that.
Here is where limiting beliefs enter the chat and create the stories we tell ourselves about why we can’t, won’t, or shouldn’t succeed.
These might sound like:
"I’m not smart enough."
"I’ll fail if I try."
"People like me don’t succeed."
“Making money is hard.”
“The world is so unfair, I am not going to bother trying.”
These beliefs are often rooted in past experiences, societal expectations, or fear of rejection.
Over time, they become internalized truths that control our actions—or lack thereof.
So how can we flip the script and take our narrative back? I am glad you asked…
Here’s my roadmap recommendations to help you navigate this journey.
Recognize the Stories You’re Telling Yourself. Awareness is the first step. Pay attention to the inner dialogue that plays in your head. Are your thoughts supportive, or are they filled with self-criticism? Write down your limiting beliefs to bring them into the light.
Challenge the Belief. For every limiting belief, ask yourself:
Is this true? Where did this belief come from? What evidence do I have to support or refute this?
Often, you’ll find these beliefs crumble under scrutiny.
Next time these thoughts come up, put into practice replacing limiting beliefs with affirmations that align with the life you want to create.
For example:
Limiting belief: “I’m not experienced enough.”
Empowering truth: “I am capable of learning and growing with every challenge.”
Start journaling on these and feel free to share with me how you are working to flip the script.
Another recommendation for you to kick start this journey to flipping the script is by checking out one of my favorite authors and coaches, Rachel Rodgers calls out in her book “We Should All Be Millionaires”.. how we carry around broke A$$ stories about our lives, talking ourselves out of everything that comes into the path we desire.
The major point she makes is that if you truly want to succeed, it starts with looking at the reality of your situation and finding a way to change the narrative of what you believe to be true.
There is actually a section in the book that shows you how to flip “Broke A$$ Stories into Million Dollar Stories”- yes please!
(and if you have not read Rachel’s book, I highly recommend you checking it out… and the workbook that goes with it linked HERE)
Take Action to Build Confidence. Action is the antidote to fear and doubt. Start with small steps to prove your capabilities. Celebrate these wins, no matter how small, to build momentum and self-belief.
Cultivate Gratitude and Positivity. Focus on what’s going right instead of what’s going wrong. A gratitude practice—listing three things you’re thankful for daily—can shift your perspective from lack to abundance.
You CANNOT, ABSOLUTELY NOT call in more of what you desire in life, unless you are grateful for what you already have.
Surround Yourself with Positive Influences. Your environment matters. Spend time with people who uplift and inspire you. Avoid the naysayers who feed into doubt or negativity. This means if you have to friends edit an energy vampire, I give you permission to do so.
Commit to Growth. Personal and professional growth is a journey, not a destination. Stay open to learning and evolving, even when the road gets tough.
Listen, a positive mindset doesn’t mean ignoring challenges; it means approaching them with resilience and resourcefulness.
When you take control of your thoughts, you reclaim your power and allow shift within you to see setbacks as steppingstones rather than roadblocks, approach life with curiosity and courage and build deeper connections with those around you.
Flipping the script on limiting beliefs isn’t a one-time fix; it’s a lifelong practice. But the rewards are immense: a life where you’re in the driver’s seat, steering toward your goals with confidence and purpose.
You have the power to rewrite your story. So why not make it one of strength, perseverance, and success?
